Another Democrat Giddy About Hurricane Gustav

God is on the side of the Democrats, or at least former National Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Don Fowler, based on a video clip posted at redstate.com.

Fowler laughs as he comments to Congressman John Spratt (D-SC):

“The hurricane is going to hit New Orleans about the time it’s (Republican Convention) starting.”

Fowler continues… “The times, at least as it appears now, is that it will be there on Monday. That just demonstrates that God’s on our side.”

Wow. That is profoundly disturbing that Don Fowler is excited about a hurricane hitting our country as the Republicans meet.

Twisted. Disturbing. Sad.

We’re Still Not in a Recession

August 28, 2008 · Filed Under Democratic National Convention, Economy ·

The Barack Obama campaign has been beating the drum about the sour state of the U.S. economy, and the mainstream media keeps pushing the “r” word: recession.

But guess what… the reality is quite different than the jaundiced view coming out of Denver.

The economy performed better than expected in Q2 of 2008, according to the Associated Press.

The economy shifted to a higher gear in the spring, growing at its fastest pace in nearly a year as foreign buyers snapped up U.S. exports and tax rebates spurred shoppers at home.

The Commerce Department reported Thursday that gross domestic product, or GDP, increased at a 3.3 percent annual rate in the April-June quarter. The revised reading was much better than the government’s initial estimate of a 1.9 percent pace and exceeded economists’ expectations for a 2.7 percent growth rate.

I’m so sure we’ll hear about this in Obama’s speech tonight.

Bill Clinton Lies in Support of Barack Obama

August 28, 2008 · Filed Under Democratic National Convention ·

I was watching Bill Clinton address the faithful in Denver last night, and a couple thing stuck out as being particularly truth challenged.

At one point, Clinton mentioned in his remarks that we need to focus more on fighting diseases like AIDS overseas.

Say what you might about President Bush, but he has done more than any other President to fight AIDS in Africa.

A recent opinion piece at philly.com details the contrasts between Bush and Clinton when it came to fighting AIDS.

Little things like Bush spending more than three times annually than Clinton ever did.

Bill Clinton also touched on how “they took us from record surpluses to an exploding national debt.”

This mythology is continually reiterated by Democrats, but it simply has no basis, unless you don’t count the end of Clinton’s second term, and the Clinton Recession, which began in March 2000, as documented by Wikipedia.

Using the stock market as an unofficial benchmark, a recession would have begun in March 2000 when the NASDAQ crashed following the collapse of the Dot-com bubble. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was relatively unscathed by the NASDAQ’s crash until the September 11, 2001 attacks, after which the DJIA suffered its worst one-day point loss and biggest one-week losses in history.

If only the Dot-com bubble, which was the basis for the economic growth in the 1990s, had not burst under Clinton, and he had addressed Al-Qaeda during all of the smaller terror attacks in the 1990s, he would have a point.

But the inconvenient truth is that his claims and damning statements were full of holes.

Bill Clinton: Obama “a Chicago thug”

August 27, 2008 · Filed Under Democratic National Convention ·

Bill Clinton delivered a rousing speech where he touted his economic victories (forgetting the recession at the tail end of his second term), as well as touting Barack Obama.

It was a pretty sugar coat of his true characterization of Obama, who Clinton has said has the political instincts of “a Chicago thug,” according to the Denver Post.

Bill Clinton believes the Democratic nominee, far from practicing a unifying, transformational brand of politics, has the political instincts of “a Chicago thug,” one longtime associate said. Clinton has told people that Obama allowed surrogates to try to suppress Hispanic turnout in the Nevada caucuses, and played “the race card” in reverse against the Clintons in South Carolina and other states.

Is it any wonder that Bill Clinton is rumored to be skipping town and skipping Obama’s speech on Thursday?

Democrats Have Buyer’s Remorse

Pundits all around talked about the impact of Hillary Clinton’s speech today and how an Obama-Clinton ticket would probably have a 10 point bump right now.

The crowd went crazy, and Hillary Clinton’s supporters aren’t sold on Obama.

Joe Biden who?

Coverage of the Democratic National Convention

August 27, 2008 · Filed Under Democratic National Convention ·

There is some entertaining coverage of the Democratic National Convention for anybody that has had enough of the mainstream media version of it.

I liked the video of the Recreate68 rally, where the crowd was maybe in the tens.

See http://conventions2008.blogspot.com/ for coverage of the Democratic National Convention this week and the Republican National Convention on September 1-4, 2008.

Some highlights from Monday, August 25 at the DNC…

Does Hillary Want Obama to Win?

August 27, 2008 · Filed Under Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton ·

Hillary Clinton gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention last night that gave mild praise to Obama and lavish praise for herself.

Many thought she was less than enthusiastic for Obama, and if you look at some of her past words, as chronicled by the AP, it’s not much of a surprise:

Dec. 3, 2007: “So you decide which makes more sense: Entrust our country to someone who is ready on Day One … or to put America in the hands of someone with little national or international experience, who started running for president the day he arrived in the U.S. Senate.”

March 2008. “I know Sen. McCain has a lifetime of experience that he will bring to the White House. And Sen. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.”

Feb. 23, 2008: “Now, I could stand up here and say, ‘Let’s just get everybody together. Let’s get unified.’ The skies will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect.”

The truth hurts, and the embittered Barack Obama could apparently not get past the comments when searching for a running mate.

James Carville Critical of the Democrat Message

“If this party has a message it’s done a hell of a job hiding it tonight, I promise you that.”

Obama Live from St. Kansas City Louis

August 26, 2008 · Filed Under Democratic National Convention, Gaffe ·

Barack Obama doesn’t limit his flip flops, confused remarks and gaffes to campaign issues. He also seems to be challenged when it comes to geography.

Wait, that’s not new. Obama made his famous reference to having visited 57 of 58 states.

But last night at the convention, he claimed to be in both St. Louis and Kansas City at the same time, as reported by the News-Leader in Springfield, MO.

Tonight, Democrat Barack Obama didn’t know what town he was in.

In a live satellite speech tonight to the Democratic National Convention in Denver from a home in Kansas City, Obama said: “I’m here with the Girardo family here in St. Louis.”

Then came a graphic across the television screen that said Obama was in Kansas City, Mo.

Then 7-year-old Sasha Obama asked: “Daddy, what city are you in?”

“I’m in Kansas City, sweetie,” Obama said, correcting his earlier geographic reference.

At least one of the Obamas can keep things straight.

Barack Obama - Joe Biden

August 23, 2008 · Filed Under Democratic National Convention, Joe Biden ·

Word this morning is that Joe Biden will be Barack Obama’s Vice-Presidential pick.

What a swell match… two gaffe-prone plagiarists. Change we can bereave in for sure.

At least that Joe Biden is clean and articulate.
