In response to criticism over playing the race card, Obama declared yesterday that John McCain isn’t racist, according to the AP.

“In no way do I think John McCain’s campaign was racist. I think they are cynical. Their team is good at creating distractions and engaging in negative attacks.”

First, the comment from Obama about how he doesn’t “look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills” wasn’t the first time he suggested Team McCain would go racist.

Back on Friday, June 20 at a Florida fund-raiser, Obama proclaimed that Republicans will make the Presidential contest about race.

Second, the recent comment from Obama that caused the race card dust-up was a cynical bash on McCain in itself:

“Nobody thinks that Bush and McCain have a real answer to the challenges we face. So what they’re going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, he’s not patriotic enough, he’s got a funny name, you know, he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.”

Can Obama be more ironic with his attacks while he simultaneously plays the victim?
